UQ has been at the heart of higher education in Queensland for almost 125 years, and is consistently a World Top 50 university. But its long, storied history sometimes works to its disadvantage, framing UQ as the old established player next to more recent additions like QUT.


This is a major problem in important growth areas like business and the arts, where ‘new and shiny’ really matters to prospective students. Fortunately it’s all misperception, and UQ is genuinely at the leading edge of innovation in almost every field. The truth is, behind those classic sandstone walls, the students and teachers of UQ are making crazy things happen.


Rolled out across TV, digital, OOH and online, our Own The Unknown campaign focusses on incredible innovations currently happening at UQ, and tells school leavers that they don’t have to wait for the future to make an impact, because at UQ, they’re already doing it.

Since our campaign is focussed on showing off UQ’s ultra-modern facilities and approach, we visually called out the NOW in UQ’s long-running line: ‘Own The Unknown’, each showcasing an innovation on currently developing at the university through illustrations and animations.
