But taking a design thinking approach revealed a bigger opportunity. Deaf kids want to feel like ‘everybody else’ and to have TV heroes just like them. And learning’s more fun when you do it with family and friends.
Queensland Department of Education
DisciplinesSo we made Sally & Possum, Australia’s first children’s content series performed entirely in sign language. Early learning experts guided the curriculum, and our writers, art directors, and film creatives brought scripts, sets and visual stories vividly to life. Voices were dubbed in so the show could be enjoyed by all audiences, together.
As Sally & Possum grew in popularity we added companion mobile apps, a school resource kit, and a live show that toured regional Queensland, Melbourne, and Sydney. Soon, the ABC licensed the series. Now all six seasons are broadcast on ABC Kids and iView on high rotation. And the show has become valuable IP for the Department of Education.
Today, tens of thousands of Aussie kids enjoy learning and laughing with Sally & Possum.
